Is this a great country or what?

"Are they sad?"
Maia was asking about people crying on television in the aftermath of CNN’s announcement that Obama had won.
"No, people don’t always cry because they’re sad," I said.
"They cry when they’re moved," Kristina said.
After dinner, I listened to McCain’s speech and Obama’s speech in a black leather easy chair in front of the television.
"Are you crying?" Maia asked.
"No," I said.
"Yes, you are," she said, studying my face. "Your eyes are red."
"No," I insisted.
Nevertheless, Maia covered me in towels and blankets as I watched.
