We go to see Avatar

"If you were in the Army, would you kill them?"

This came at a point in the movie after the lines had been drawn up. She knew that the white people were seeking to kill the blue people, though why she wasn't sure. But she had made the connection between compulsion and conscience since she knew that some of the white (army) people didn't want to kill the blue people.

"That's a complicated question, Maia. I have to think about it."

"Because you have to participate," she said. "You have to do what the bosses say. Or you have to get out of the Army."

"Yes," I said. "You have to follow orders in you're in it."

"My Dad in Kazakhstan was in the Army," she said. "For real."
